Violation of Democracy and the Political Ignorance

By Emad Barsoum•February 17, 2022•3 min read

During what was called "The Arab Spring," which erupted in some Middle Eastern countries at the beginning of 2011 and resulted in the fall of several totalitarian regimes', there was a phenomenon, or an assumed conspiracy theory called "The Third Party".

This third party was the unseen responsible person(s) for any act of violence, civil unrest, sabotage, or any aggression against the mass citizens who require change and calling for new democratic regimes. However, no one until now could identify who is/are this third party specifically.

I remembered these incidents in the contemporary political history after the allegations that there is an unidentified party which is responsible for the funding and organizing the "Convoy Protests" that has maliciously paralyzed our Capital and most of the trade routes between Canada and the USA, and which was leading to possible economic tribulations.

The resemblance between those two incidents is how governments sometimes, instead of facing tough situations, incline to create fictitious and dramatic events to cover their political ignorance or failure to handle serious tests to their competency.

It started with vague statements from the federal government, followed by silence. The cabinet disappeared, and it seemed like no one was in charge. Only when the law enforcement units started to act after a court consent did we witness some clearance of such a dark cloud. Also then, when we began to hear about a third party who is after the destruction of Canada and its economic system.

Aside from discussing and questioning who is that third party? And why Canada? And since when did Canada have those enemies that would come after its peace, stability, and economy? In addition, where are the intelligence, the RCMP, and all the security systems looking after our freedom, peace, and solidity? Why Now?

We realized that the federal government keeps failing to handle many challenges, economically, socially, and politically, whether internally or internationally. Even democracy became at high risk when the federal government threatened those who exercise the freedom of speech, the significant form of practicing democracy, by issuing laws that could restrict physical freedom.

Although the declaration of a state of emergency came very late but was it really meant to resolve this plight of the "Convoy Protest," or was it the last card of a player who is losing everything.

Indeed, it was a critical decision since many spectators regard it as a violation of democracy. Still, in certain times some measures must be taken to protect the democracy and the freedom of mass citizens against a few who have endangered our freedom and our strength.
